Will Mosko pulled his police car up next to my father's car outside the office and they talked from inside their respective cars. My father was taking me to Lincoln for a long overdue visit with Luka. But Will had news. The only retail distributor of that particular identity bracelet was Gimbel's Department Store in Pittsburgh; ironically, the very store where Martha Brennan had given birth to Joe's son before bleeding to death. But Joe Scarceletti did not use his charge account to purchase the bracelet. If he bought it there, he paid cash. And Gimbel's does not do engraving. Neither do they recommend a jeweler for engraving. So the search was on for the engraver of the bracelet. That search would encompass scores of jewelry stores, and Will didn't have the man power to do a speedy job. It would take time.
"Have you got the bracelet on you now?" my father asked.
Will handed the bracelet through the car window to my father.
"Can I keep this till tomorrow morning?" my father asked, "I want Luka to see it."
"Are you sure?"
"I think it's time, don't you?"
